Tech Support Nightmares – Ejecting the Disc

This week, we’re going to give a nod to our friendly technology customer service specialists, otherwise known as “tech support“. Some of these may be old, but the principles still apply. Can we blame them for being frustrated and irate when they have to deal with issues like these?

Before CDs & DVDs, there were diskettes, or floppy disks, which were pushed directly into a slot on the front of the computer and had a little button which would eject the disk manually.

Customer: Hi, I can’t get the diskette out of my computer.

Tech support: Have you tried pushing the eject button?

Customer: Yes, of course, but it’s really stuck.

Tech support: That doesn’t sound good, I’ll start a ticket and have someone come by.

Customer: No… wait a minute… I hadn’t inserted it yet… it’s still on my desk… sorry….

Bonus Tech Support Joke

Tech support: What kind of computer do you have?

Customer: A white one…

  1. I used to wait 2-3 weeks for a giant box of floppy disks w/ books and now I get upset if I have to wait more than 2 min. for my license key

Why is there an eject button on the DVD remote? I still have to get up and take the disc out. It’s like having a remote to open the fridge

I too have my own collection of floppy disks (CAD files and so-called documents) from my first years on the job. Actually, I have not even thought about pulling up the information on those floppy disks even if I wanted to, especially since technology has changed so much. But for some reason, I still hang onto them andI am not sure why. I think the data on my floppies are definitely “doomed data” because they are most likely defunct after all of these years.

  4. Y is there an eject button on d remote of a dvd player? It’s not lyk i won’t still walk 2 d player 2 remove d disk”

  5. knormons says:

What the hell is wrong with you people? a one second delay! What else were you planning to do with that second? How is that you have time to hold down the eject button for one second but you have time to complain about it on a blog?

I have a MacBook and very happy with the new delay, it was a feature to add, thank you Apple.
