During a simulated attack, the participating soldiers practiced defensive moves against an imaginary enemy. The sergeant would broadcast what the enemy was doing and how the troops should react.
As he was barking out orders, he noticed that one recruit was standing in the middle of the operating area and wasn’t doing anything.
“You there,” shouted the sergeant, “the enemy is advancing, and your are caught in the crossfire. Action!”
The recruit quickly looked around and quickly stepped to the side.
“What are you doing, man?” yelled the sergeant, his face flushed with rage.
“I’m taking shelter behind an imaginary tree, Sergeant,” the recruit answered calmly.
