Half a Tooth

An eight-year old's deciduous teeth.

The seven-year-old boy informed his parents that part of his tooth had come out. They checked and, sure enough, a piece had broken off.

Trying to lighten the moment, his mother turned to his father and asked, “What do you suppose the tooth fairy gives for half a tooth?”

“Nothing,” the boy replied, “She wants the tooth, the whole tooth, and nothing but the tooth.”

CASSEROLE: Combination of favorite foods that go uneaten because they are mixed together.

DESSERT: The reason for eating a meal.

EVAPORATE: Magic trick performed by children when it comes time to clear the table or wash dishes.

FRUIT: A natural sweet not to be confused with dessert.

Each day when I would come home from work I would drop to my knees and ask my 4-year-old son if he wanted to box. I wanted him to learn how to protect himself. We would spar around for a few minutes before supper.

One day my wife and I took our son to get new shoes. The shoe salesman was fiendly and allowed my son to try on several pairs of shoes before we decided on a particular pair that he liked. We asked if he wanted to wear them home and he replied, “yes”.
